About a month ago, I had the pleasure to meet Wyland, who was one of my childhood idols. As a kid, I’d often visit his gallery on the North Shore of Hawaii, as I was an inspiring artist to be. The funny thing was that it wasn’t just his paintings that inspired me, but the whopping prices that it sold for that caught my attention. Honestly, those prices were my ah ha moment that really pushed me into this industry.
Wyland, a renowned artist, is most recognized for his life-size paintings of whales on the sides of buildings in the 1980s. Today, the Wyland name has become synonymous with the new generation of awareness about environmental conservation. Through his unique marine life paintings, sculptures, and photography, Wyland has inspired a generation about the importance of marine life conservation.
The crazy part about all of this is that it’s all come full circle… As I was once inspired as a kid with his gallery located 5 minutes from my home, I discovered that once again he is 5 minutes away from my place in Irvine. Yesterday, I was once again blown away as I spent some time at his place where many of his creations came to life. I wish I could share everything that I saw, but me describing it could never do it justice. So… although majority of the stuff is under wraps, here’s what I can show you from today.
Be sure to check back soon as I’ll post up a little something that I got to work on for Wyland.
