I'm often known for going days on end without a drop of sleep. Missing a deadline is never an option. As much as I'm not a coffee drinker, here's my secret.
One of these every 8ish hours lol.
We just got in the custom new arcade for the Newkon/Kallusive office. Yea... It's a custom designed arcade and designing it was a blast. This bad boy holds over 1,300 games and can entertain for days. Pretty much, if you can remember the game, then it’s in the arcade. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of tournaments to come and good times to follow.
So after being trapped in my house for the last 2 months and probably painting an average of 13 plus hours a day, the show finally arrived.
Resurrection, my first solo show in LA was hours away and it was crunch time. Saturday, July 17th kicked off on a crazy note. After sleeping for a mere 3 hours in four days leading to the event, I was awoken from a phone call from Lofa at 9am. Dang! That was gonna be the day I finally slept in before the show! Oh well, at least it was good news. Lofa was here from Hawaii, Palmetto was here to get the custom Newkon arcade machine ready to go, and fellow PFOM homie Woebots arrived to finish our collaboration.
Slowly the staff arrived, and the crew put it in high gear to get everything ready. The tent went up, DJ Time Machine and Groove Monsters were set, the bar was filled with drinks from our sponsor AMP Energy drinks and of course the alcohol, the taco stand from Vega Meats was heating up, and with an hour left till show time I was out the door.
Things were soooo crazy that I eighty-sixed the idea of cutting my hair and just got ready for the show. Lucky for me Larry was in town and had my credit card. While getting ready, I sent him simultaneously to go shopping to pick the gear I’d wear for the night. Even with that, I arrived an hour late for the show.
Here's the breakdown of the festivities... When I arrived the parking lot was full and people were flowing out and about. From looking at the art, to enjoying the free food and drinks, to the beats coming from DJ speaker set up, all our guests were entertained, and the show had only just begun.
I wasn't there at the beginning, so I borrowed these pictures from Party with Panda. Big ups to Clayton for covering the event.
It was amazing to know how much support I had that came out. Among the L.A. crowd that came out were also friends and family all the way from Hawaii! There was Larry Ganiron of Spiffy Media and his wife, designer Shannelle Ganiron of Manovich, Steve and Dani Looney of Pacific Soul Tattoo, Emily and the gang, and the biggest surprise was my parents Brad and Leona whom Alex and Michael flew in. Also flying in was long time friend Heather from Las Vegas. The clothing industry side was also represented by the likes of Metropark's corporate office who were there in full force represented by Lisa Anderson, Mary Vallarta, Jen Rhee, Waylon Huynh, David Hang, Sarah Lontoc, Khahn Vo and Laura Vo. And of course, the Kallusive family was in attendance. Youtube sensation Jason Yang rocked it all night on his violin while amazing the crowd with his “Perfect Pitch.” The dance community was well represented by the likes of the Kinjaz (Mike Song, Anthony Lee, Noah Henderson, Jason Bueno and Lawrence Kao), Arnel Calvario and Mike Song of Kaba Modern Legacy, Jason Park of enKore, Ludacris and Janet Jacksons long time dancer and personal friend Laurel Thomson and last but not least Movement Life Style's Shaun Evaristo. Oh snapps and then there was homegirl Alicia Vela-Bailey who has become a player in the stunt industry. From the media and the big screen sector were Arielle Jamin from Ktv, Clayton Woodley with Party with Panda who covered the event, Abel from Paramount Pictures and Chris from MTV. Saving the best for last is my new sponsor Gary form Graphaids Art Supply, who is also the new owner of the NEW king KONg piece I did for the show.
Overall I rocked about 100 new paintings, prints, and toys for the show. The crowd rolled in around 4pm and stayed way past 8pm when the show was scheduled to end. I’d like to think everyone had a great time as I know I did. The turn-out was great, people ate and drank all night, The Groove Monsters, Jason Yang, and Mike Song entertained the crowd, and the night ended without a hiccup.
